Report to Congress names Hanscom Field as one of the most wasteful uses of federal stimulus funds

June 16, 2009:  Shortly after Hanscom Field was named as a recipient of Federal Stimulus Funds, a report to congress names Hanscom as one of the most potentially wasteful expenditures of the taxpayers money.

Massport applied for Federal Stimulus Funds for Hanscom Field for projects totaling $10M.  These funds are for improvements primarily related to private luxury aircraft.   Despite the petitions of local state representatives, state senators, and local congressional representatives that such expenditures were not a good use of the taxpayers money or consistent with the goals of the stimulus program, the FAA made a preliminary award to Massport of $3M.

Subsequent to this award of stimulus funds, a report to congress by Senator Coburn identified the Hanscom funding as one of the most potentially wasteful expenses in America.
